Cultures and Traditions – Nepal is a small country with multiple cultures and traditions. We find every people with different cultures and traditions. They follow different cultures and traditions according to their norms and beliefs. Cultures and Traditions are the root identity of every people. It is a trending process that is followed from ancient ages with beliefs. Well talking about Nepali cultures and traditions we can find various cultures and traditions among the people and respect for all.

To make our guests happy and comfortable is the main feeling of all people of Nepal. We can find thirty-six different ethnic groups and different religions. They have their own languages as well.

Cultures and Traditions in Nepal

Nepal is widely known as a cultural and traditional country in the world. Cultures and traditions are the roots of the ancient beliefs of the Nepali people. Cultures and traditions in Nepal differ from one religion to another.

It also differs from one state to another. Also, there are different religious beliefs that differ from one place to another. Nepali cultures and traditions are mostly due to the religions which they follow. The people follow different religions. Hinduism, Buddhism, Islam, Christianity etc are some religions that are found in Nepal.

Hindus celebrate different festivals like Dashain, Tihar, Chhath, Holi, father’s day, mother’s day, and, Saraswati puja, etc. Dashain is considered the main festival of Hindus. They receive tika and blessings for seniors. They celebrate by flying kites, eating delicious food items and visiting their relative’s homes.

Tihar is celebrated for five days. The first day is considered crow day so they provide food to crows, the second day is known as dog day. On this day dog is worshipped and given meat and rice for their dinner. The third day is for ox. They worship ox with tika and garland and provide them good food. The fourth day is for cow or Laxmi because Hindus believe cow as the goddess Laxmi.

Similar to other days cow is worshipped in the daytime with tika and garland and at night time they celebrate the goddess Laxmi by making everywhere bright with the help of candles and electrical bulbs. They play Deusi and Bhailo eats Sel roti. The final day is known as vai tika on this day sisters offer tika to their brothers for long and happy life. Tihar is considered a festival of lights.

Chhath is the day when they worship the sun by taking bathe on rivers or ponds by burning deep all overnight and singing Bhajan. Holi is the festival of colours. They put different kinds of colours on each other.

Talking about Buddhism they celebrate buddha Purnima, Losar. They follow the Gautam buddha path. Buddha Purnima is the born day of buddha they celebrate it by going to gumba and doing different dancing and singing programmes. On Losar also they go to their relative’s houses and enjoy by having delicious foods. They also go to gumba.

Likewise, Islam celebrates Eid. On this day they to go the mosque. They distribute sweets to everyone. They call their god Allah. Muslims kneel and touch their foreheads to the ground when they are praying. Similarly, Christians celebrate Christmas. They enjoy this day by going to church and they perform, sing and dance and eat delicious food. This day is the birthday of their god Jesus.

There are Kirat people who celebrate Ubhauli and Udhauli. They speak their own mother tongue. On this day they wear their cultural dress and ornaments. They also celebrate it by praying in the morning and in the daytime they eat delicious foods with their relatives.

Conclusions-Nepali cultures and traditions

There are three different regions they are mountains, hills and terai with different cultures. We can find people with different face structures and different talking tones. It means that Nepali culture can be expressed through means of languages and pieces of literature. Similarly music and dance. Art and crafts are also another medium of expressing the form of Nepali cultures.

Art is one of the ancient means of Nepali culture. Although there are a diversity of cultures among them we can find peace and harmony among them. They always respect each other emotions and cultures. They enjoy each other happiness by attending each other festivals not only that they also provide help to each other whenever necessary.

The most important Nepali culture and traditions are to spread love and kindness among the people.
